Anyone expecting intense techno from the very beginning is likely to be disappointed. This one is disco from the word go, with three of my favourite ever 70s and 80s tracks alongside each other. Nile Rodgers first off, doing what he does best with his remix of Lost in Music. It’s the same guitar strums now at the top of the charts with Daft Punk’s Get Lucky. Then Idris Muhammad (he was first and foremost a jazz drummer, you know?) and Dennis Parker (first and foremost a porn actor) with his brilliant Like an Eagle.

After that (and via a great edit of Paul Simon) it gets a touch more modern. I tried out many of these songs at a recent set and, for the most part, they went down very well. Particularly a new track from Kolsch called Zig. I think it could stand a good chance of being the song of the summer. It certainly is for me anyway.

This mix is an unashamedly euphoric collection of feel-good music to celebrate this historic summer for Team GB. Some of the songs are old favourites. Others are newer. See if you can spot the Olympic references hidden in there, and make sure you listen all the way to the end, for the amazing Underworld tune which marked the lighting of the Olympic cauldron. Britain doesn’t usually do patriotism, but this summer my Lord we’ve done it well. Enjoy.

Ode 2 Joy

You have to hand it to the poor old euro. Always somehow capable of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. There could hardly have been a more unpropitious time for the single currency, or indeed the broader European project.

It is with that in mind, along with the European mindset of fraternite, that this latest mix was put together. (Almost) every track on this mix has some kind of relevance to Europe and the European Union, and the one or two that don’t… well they’re just so good they couldn’t be left out.

So here it is: your new European anthem. It starts slow, emerging out of the gloom and misery, much like, well the EU; after more than an hour of bounciness (with the occasional interlude of contemplation) it ends back in the gloom again. A bit like Europe.
